Music In My Heart

Friday, April 27, 2012

I need of musical instrument accessories? I found a site which has items from brass instruments to accessories they have it all. My son is musically inclined and I am sure to enroll him in a music class someday when he's a bit bigger. He is 2 right now and whenever he hears music, he sings along. One time, he was given a little microphone as a gift - he was singing and singing until the battery died. When his ama gave him a little piano - in less than 3 months it went kaput. I guess when he is bigger and when he can appreciate it, I can buy him the real deal. No more toys time for the musical instruments fit for someone as talented as him. Don't forget for needs like k-m stands, guitars, keyboards, drums and more check out the site, you won't regret it if music is in your heart.

And...here we go!

1. Ah, me...my weakness these days is Stefan Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries.
2. Our plans for July is what's on my mind most lately.
3. When I talk to my best friend, I tell him everything. Unedited and I don't hold anything back.
4. Sleeping early so I can be more productive is what's working for me lately.
5. I recently saw the movie, The Lovely Bones - and I loved it.
6. My kids fills me with joy!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching The Vampire Diaries Season 3, tomorrow my plans include bringing Joshua to his Pizza making in Greenwich and bringing Jacob to his Gymboree class and Sunday, I want to hear mass and rest!

This week has been a pretty busy week for me.

  • I have reserved a flight.
  • Checked over a hundred hotels and booked one.
  • Had my nanny checked by 2 doctors.
  • Gotten blood works, urine and abdomen scan for the nanny.
  • Had my tooth surgically removed.
and it's still a Thursday. Tomorrow I will get my son's diploma, have him enrolled then on Saturday there's his pizza making activity and Gymboree for my other son. Whoo.

I want to just have a day for myself and watch The Vampire Diaries all day but I guess that's too selfish for a mother to ask. Any mother would agree that a mom's job is 24/7 not by choice - but that's just how it is. We can't help think about our kids 27/4. We want to protect them from everything and know what they are up to every single moment of the day to make sure they are alright. I watched the movie, The Lovely Bones last night and I really enjoyed it. Death inevitable. It is scary to be here on earth one minute then heaven in the next. We can't watch our kids forever. We can't protect them all the time too.

Speaking of protect, these pallet covers can protect your precious cargo for the elements especially if you have to store it for a bit.

I got sidetracked by word - as usual because I am a working mom and the downside of working in a family business is that you're on-call all the time. It's almost 7PM here but I am still doing some canvassing for storage cost for those stocking orders that are being cleared this week.

Trying to juggle work and kids is pretty difficult but I can do it. Supermom mode.

Goodbye, Wisdom.

I am officially without wisdom. All 4 of my wisdom teeth are out. Although there is still swelling; the pain has subsided and I am relieved that there will be no more crowding. What are wisdom teeth and why do they have to be there??? I read in this article that:

Wisdom Teeth
The average adult has 32 teeth by age 18 — 16 teeth on the top and 16 teeth on the bottom. Each tooth in the mouth has a specific name and function. The teeth in the front of the mouth (incisors, canine and bicuspid teeth) are ideal for grasping and biting food into smaller pieces while the back teeth, or molar teeth, are used to grind food up into a consistency suitable for swallowing. However, the average mouth is made to hold only 28 teeth. It can be painful when 32 teeth try to fit in a mouth that holds only 28 teeth. These four other teeth are your Third Molars, also known as "wisdom teeth."

Why Should I Remove My Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. When they align properly, and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. The extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary when they are prevented from properly erupting within the mouth. They may grow sideways, partially emerge from the gum, and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Impacted teeth can take many positions in the bone as they attempt to find a pathway that will allow them to erupt successfully. These poorly positioned impacted teeth can cause many problems. When they are partially erupted, the opening around the tooth allows bacteria to grow and will eventually cause an infection. The result: swelling, stiffness, pain and illness. The pressure from the erupting wisdom tooth may move other teeth and disrupt the orthodontic or natural alignment of teeth. The most serious problem occurs when tumors or cysts form around the impacted wisdom tooth, resulting in the destruction of the jawbone and healthy teeth. Removal of the offending impacted tooth or teeth usually resolves these problems. Early removal is recommended to avoid such future problems and to decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.

My question is, why are there 3rd molars when our jaws can only hold up to 28 teeth!? What are they there for?

Wisdom teeth are used for the same thing the rest of your teeth are used for...to grind your food. But they were used more before the invention of fire and cooked food. The widom teeth are suited for grinding raw meat. But since we cook our food, we don't need them.

Factoid#21 - Scientists say that eventually, we will lose our wisdom teeth since we don't need them. Evolution makes our mouths smaller as the wisdom teeth take longer and longer to grow in with each generation. Got the answer here and there's a more detailed explanation here.

Healing

Monday, April 23, 2012

I am super happy we had the change to visit and venerate the relic of Saint Claire when it was in Sacred Heart-Church, Cebu. I got to pray and ask for healing. Not just for any physical pains for the healing of family and of faith. I am not the best or model Catholic out there. In fact, without my mom's proding - I'd probably be astray. Don't get me wrong, I religiously hear mass on Sundays but sometimes, I am not 100% attentive to the service. Plus, I put too much emphasis on my outfit than the homily. I sometimes get bored and fidle on my phone. Sometimes, I fuss at the pews and wish we had those church chairs by chairs4worship because they are more comfortable. Knowing all this, I should know what to not to do next time right?

I guess sometimes there's too much distraction in church. Also, when my sons are with me while hearing mass, it gets very dificult to concentrate on the reading and homily.

Anyway, I am happy Joshua and I had the chance to visit St.Claire's relic last Friday. It was a good experience.

Learning Instruments

The world wide web is a lifesaver.

I wanted more information about some musical instruments and I was directed to this site which tells you all about what you need to know and where to go to buy them. You see, I was thinking of enrolling my sons in either piano, guitar or drum classes this summer. Drums are ruled out of the picture because they are quite expensive for my budget. So that leaves us with piano and guitar. Piano's are quite expensive as well but my family has one in my grandparents house and then there's also the organ which my in-laws have. We have a guitar here at home so guitar easily wins this one. Apparently there are a gazillion guitar models out there - there's acoustic, electric and classical. Plus there are accessories like the MXR Pedals, picks and tuners.

Eeeep.

For a music noob like me, I easily get intimidated. Can he learn ukulele instead?

Electra in Magenta

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Summer is here and what better way to spend it is to spend it with family. Traveling is always a welcome change to the monotonous schedule we call life. While I am not into hiking, these hiking backpacks looks really good and sturdy. Perfect for a weekend away or a beach trip with the family. Everything can be jammed in there, laptop, clothes and towel. The beauty about backpacks is that Your hands will be free to reach for your airline ticket or phone as opposed to those suitcases where you have to drag it around. When it is just a short trip and there's a lot of climbing (stairs or mountains) a sturdy backpack is a good thing to have. When you think of backpacks, what comes to mind? North Face of course. This one in Magenta looks mighty fine. I am planning a trip for May (weekend) and a longer one in July (5 weeks) so I am thinking this one is versatile enough for both trips. I am crossing my fingers on those planned trips. Xx

Hottness

31 degrees Celsius. Scorching hot if you ask me. What better way to spend the day than lie in the pool and relax. My baby boy knows all about the good life.

I could use some major cooling off right now. A lot of people have been annoying me and it feels like the hot weather is not helping my hot head.

New Places

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Summer is here and you know what that means, right? Sun, sand and sea! What else. I have 2 kids below 7, how else can they be entertained this season? With the temperature rising up to an alarming high (34C!) it is best to cool off somewhere fun and new. The problem with somewhere "fun" is most of the time, we don't know where they are. I drive but I am so bad at directions. I can only be sure of a place when I have been there more than once. I've been thinking about getting Garmin GPS for Ebony ever since I found a reliable website that sells them - I wonder if they have free shipping outside the US? No biggie because I know someone going to the US soon for a vacay so I can just have this shipped to me no problem, but does it work in the third world!? That's the problem. At USD100 up, that's a great deal if you ask me! Of course, we can resort to stopping and asking for directions but it's scary to trust strangers in strange places these days, a GPS is more trustworthy. New place in no time without the hassle of getting lost, perfect vacation here we come.

The Dog Did It

If something breaks in our house before the kids came, it was always the dogs fault. The dog ate my homework. The dog broke the potted plants. The dog pooped in the front lawn. You name it. The dog did it.

Once, when our dog Porky was still a pup, he thoroughly enjoyed scratching, "digging up" things. He especially loved our sofa. It was made of faux leather so it got badly damaged beyond repair. Since the frame and foam was still intact my dad decided that it be reupholstered. There were a lot of fabric to choose from - I was drawn to the contemporary upholstery fabric but Dad decided on a thick type of cloth which was what is originally had before the faux leather. We had this sala set for over 30 years already and even with all its imperfections it is still very useful. I used to play in this set when I was a kid, now my kids are the one's goofing in 'em. It's kind of nostalgic.

Getting Nostalgic

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Graduation day is fast approaching for my 5 year old. He will be moving up to gradeschool and frankly - I am pretty scared. I am scared that he will have a hard time adjusting. I am scared that he will hate it. I am scared that he will not have enough friends. Mostly, I am afraid for me. I am scared that he won't be needing me anymore. I am scared that one day, he will grow up and suddenly, hanging out with MOM is not as "fun" anymore. Life doesn't have a pause button or a rewind (but wouldn't it be fun though?) and I just hope that I am doing something right the kids. I want them to grow up responsible and good citizens. A parent can only guide and set a good example, we cannot live life for them.
