An Emergency

Thursday, September 22, 2011

We had to rush my 85 year old grandfather to the ER.

His blood sugar was so low he was in a state of hypoglycemia. His sugar level was supposed to be within 80-121 mg/dl but his was 30mg/dl!!! It was so low that he was out of it. We tried to feed him sugar, candy and juice, but since his brain was no longr functioning he could not even will himself to swallow. We had to carry him to the car (it took 5 people .. who knew unconscious people were so heavy???) and rush him to the ER.

I was scary.

When we arrived in the ER, the doctors injected something - then a few minutes later he was back and conscious again! While he did not remember anything, I am just glad that he's back to his old self, even asking if I drove by myself to the hospital (he is like this to us, women drivers). He was asking for food so me and my cousin went out to look for food (it was almost midnight), I was in my sleeping gear and I haven't had time to brush my hair but I didn't care as long as my grandfather was okay.

We have to be real, the chances of death is nearing, maybe not now, maybe it is in 5 years, but still preparations have to be made. Life insurance, medical insurance and funeral packages are the practical things to discuss in times like these. If you haven't had time to do so yourself - click here. If not for you, for your loved one's before it is too late.
