New 'Twilight' Book by Stephenie Meyer's

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I loved Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Books. I love the books. Not the movies. After watching the first movie, I vowed not to watch any of the movies again. Reading about Edward, Bella and Jacob seemed much more interesting in my head than watching it in the big screen. Now that Ms. Meyer is coming up with a new book which introduces a surprising new heroine I am going to make sure to read it.

"On June 5, the 36-year-old multimillionaire author will release "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner," a novella that takes place concurrently with the events in the third "Twilight" book, "Eclipse." Only this time, the bloody tale of revenge and romance will be told from the perspective of Bree, a "newborn" vampire recruited by antagonist Victoria to kill human heroine Bella Swan."

And the good news is that fans can download the book for free!!!

Starting June 7 at noon and until July 5, the entire story will be available at www.breetanner.com for free. "You all have bought a ton of my books," Meyer noted on her site. "I wanted to give you this story as a gift."

Oh, My Fire!

Monday, March 29, 2010

Kaboom followed by a weird sounding thing rang just after 8 AM earlier.

The loud bang was scary enough to make me jump up my seat and check out what the heck was going on outside. It felt really close and I got scared for my life.

Minutes later the power went out.

We went outside and we could see fire and black smoke. It was near alright. However, I cannot really figure our where exactly. All I know is that the fire is near IT park, the place many of my friends are working.

This is what I got from my camphone. Seeing the fire so close to home made me really fearful and recall to renew our home insurance. Bit first, I would want to get home insurance quotes from different companies to canvass which one is best.

March is supposedly Fire Prevention Month. However, because of the El Nino fire cases have been increasing not only here in Cebu but all over the Philippines as well.

My Birthday Material Wishes

My birthday is coming up (okay okay it's a month away but I really am excited about it) and there are a few things in my wishlist right now.(i.e. things that I want as gifts!!!) Hubby is seriously thinking of buying me a Digital SLR. However, if that won't happen I don't mind any or a few of the ff:
  1. Philippe Charriol Bracelet.
  2. Philippe Charriol Ring
  3. A gaming console, maybe a wii.
  4. An iTouch
  5. A Sabrina Coach bag.
I am very easy to please actually. It's the thought that counts. Just give me something shiny and I will be happy. Of course, a little real bling will be appreciated much much more.

So Sick.

I am feeling under the weather today.

Regardless of that, I still need to report for work. Argg. If only...So anyway, did you participate in The Earth Hour?

Our family did, personally I had lights turned off at around 8PM, 30 minutes earlier and it remained switched off the whole night. Why? Because Joshua and I was super sick with colds and headache!

Sunday was the same. We were still feeling under the weather. Today, my colds have lessened but I am coughing more and more and I have lost my voice. Joshua seems better. He's more active too. If you talk to me know, I have sexy and raspy voice! But my throat hurts. :'(

I really hope this virus blows out soon. I want to enjoy the mini-vacation in a few days. Holy week, no work, chill and reflection time.

That's Hot.

Friday, March 26, 2010

OMG. That was one sweaty afternoon. Hey, its not what you think! The power went out around 1:30PM and it went back on 2 hours later. Can you imagine the heat at 91 degrees Fahrenheit and aircon or electric fan?

I was in our room making sure Joshua does not wake up. He was shirtless and I was fanning him. It was the worst time to have a power shortage. At least if it were during the evening, it would be cooler. The baby was downstairs, just outside at least it was a bit windy.

For the first time in a long time, I heard kids playing outside. Nowadays, with TV, video games and computers - kids tend to just stay in. I remember when I was young, summers meant playing outside. Games like catch, hide and seek and so much more dominated our afternoons.

Just a friendly reminder, its still March, Fire Prevention Month and for some reason, fire cases are highest this time. Kids don't play with the candles, Daddy's don't leave your Rocky Patel cigar butts anywhere, Mommy's make sure the appliances are turned off when not in use. We should do our share in making sure everything is safe, after all its us whose going to lose our possessions when fire breaks out and we don't want that.

Earth Hour 2010

Are you switching off for Earth Hour?

Mark you calendars ladies & gents. Spread the word. Please turn off your lights from 8:30 to 9:30PM on March 27, 2010.

We all know how El Nino is affecting our country. The rivers and lakes are drying up. Crops are dying. Everybody is complaining of the intense heat. The Earth hour conveys a powerful symbolic call to action on climate change by urging individuals, corporations, institutions and communities to turn off their lights for 60 minutes. Go out. Have a candlelit dinner. Tell stories with your family. In our case, last year during the Earth Hour, we prayed the rosary as a family. Today, with everything happening here and all over the world (scary earthquakes and tsunami's) which are signs of the presence of global warming, do your part and get involved.

Packaging Your Business.

The big boss was upset he couldn't find quality custom presentation folders for his big meeting for one of our major customer. So he settled to make his own. Print, organize and bind. The works. He said, packaging is an important thing especially in presenting a new product. It tells the client that you have put an effort in you product. I wouldn't have really known the importance of these things. There are so much I need to learn after all. I did not graduate in Business and Marketing that's why at times my concern is only the end result and not the ins and outs of marketing. Times like this, I am thankful I have a very wise mentor.

Vacation Mode.

After a week of trying to watch the movie, Couples Retreat I've finally finished the movie. If not for the beautiful backdrop, the clear blue waters of Bora-Bora, I would have stopped watching midway. I tell you, it makes me want to go on a couples retreat and subject myself to Monsieur Marcel's program just to have an excuse to go to the island.

What are your dream beach destinations? Locally Cebu has a lot of beaches to choose from. There's Moalboal in the South, Bantayan in the North and of course, for just an hour drive away from Cebu, there's Mactan. Outside Cebu, I've never been to Palawan and Boracay; so those two are my next dream destination.

Outside the Philippines, there are so many to choose from. Seychelles, Thailand, Mauritius, Cancun, Hawaii and Florida. But those need so much moolah which I don't have right now. Besides, there's the kids. Those 2 wouldn't want to be left so I won't mind an Orlando vacations right now. We can visit Disneyland. I am sure the boys will be thrilled.

Any vacation will do for me. It's summer. We should go somewhere fun.

Make It Work.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

It's 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside and I could use a cool, tall glass of Mango shake right now. I'd be attending a barbecue later for my friend whose celebrating her 27th birthday. Everyone is asked to wear something western. I don't have anything to wear except this huge cowboy hat. Nonetheless, I'll make it work. I always somehow do.

Anyway, today was pretty busy. I have a headache and I really am not in the mood to do anything else. Good thing the upcoming western bbq party is keeping my mind happy. Hey, this just in, I was looking for a KVM switch but stopped looking once I saw the video of Anne Curtis pleading to the fans not so spread her "wardrobe malfunction" photos. No worries Anne, I saw the pics in Facebook and I must admit, I was shocked. There were 2 photos and I thought only 1 was circulating. I'm sure there's more, but I won't spread them. I am a woman. I know how upsetting that incident might have been.

Yes, I do love Summer - but only if the heat is bearable. Today, its excruciatingly painful to the skin. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish the rains will come soon.

Welcome to the March 25th version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....
This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color of nothing, and the number one.

1. I got nothing. What should I ask next week? Although I think Kimber should do it next week. Somehow.
::: Well, maybe you can ask, "What will you say/do when you're 16 year old daughter tells you she's pregnant" :::

2. Wind chimes - annoying or not?
::: Annoying. We used to have one, I'm glad we don't have it anymore. (I really think the neighbors swiped it!) :::

3. Camping - camper or tent?
::: Camper. It's the only way to go. :::

4. Told ya I got nothing. This really sucks. I should have had Bud do this, huh?
::: I don't mind B. :::

5. What is your favorite letter of the alphabet?
::: Hahaha, Really? Okay. It's V. You guessed it, first letter of my name. :::

6. So this week my kid had to type a research paper for English.... then she had to email it to her teacher! Is that not just the oddest thing ever? Blew my mind away..
::: Yeah, I experienced this when I was in college (5 years ago), I'm sure when my kids hit high school (heck, even grade school) they will be required to bring laptops (or iPads) instead of notebooks and textbooks! Then they'll be like, "What's "paper" Ma?" :::

7. Wow. These questions suck. They suck bad. Do you like to suck through straws? For what type of beverages?
::: Hahaha. I prefer not using straws but if I must; I like it when I'm drinking shakes. :::

8. What do you do with your cell phones when you do those wonderful "upgrades" to the newer, fancier phones?
::: The old one's? Usually give them away. :::

9. It's allergy season - unless you've completely missed all the people walking around with kleenexs stuck to their nose... what are you allergic to?
::: Lately, I've been extra sensitive to dust. :::

10. What did you sleep with as a child?
::: Just a big pillow between my legs and a comfy blanket. :::

Read To Your Child

Monday, March 22, 2010

My parent's are voracious readers.

They both love to read, buy and collect paperbacks that our hallway bookshelf just isn't enough already (and that's a pretty long hallway at that!). They have resorted to giving away some of the books just to make way for the new. They were many old textbooks and Mom initially thought to sell textbooks especially in the province where very little books are sent. However, our are very old one's already and some of the information are not updated already. So, Mom just had to throw them away. We did however sent some of the story books and encyclopedia.

Apparently, the love for books and reading skipped a generation because I don't enjoy reading as much. I do have some favorites like my all time favorite Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley Twins and my recent loves Sophie Kinsella books and Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga.

My son on the other hand loves to read. He enjoys encyclopedias, story books and anything that involves animals and dinosaurs. So, even though I am dead tired I still read him a book or 2 before going to bed. After the book, it is always followed by a made up story consisting of himself, me, his daddy and his little brother. This way his imagination is developed.

My friends would ask me, "Is it tiring to be a parent?" Constantly. But you know what? Kids grow up real fast and in a few years you'll be left alone in a big empty house wishing you had someone to read to. So for now, I am just enjoying every tiring moment.

Sunday Stealing: The Eight Tens Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing. Sunday Stealing originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard of the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we also have our rules. First, we always credit the blog that we stole it from and we will “fess up” to the blog owner where we stole the meme. We also provide a link to the victim's post. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") We do sometimes edit the original meme, usually to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, sometimes to select that meme's best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from either this new meme or recently asked questions from a prior featured meme. Let's go!

Today we ripped this meme off a blogger named Lily at the blog F*ck Art Let's Dance.
She does not say where she found the meme. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

An Upgrade? Not.

Car wash yeah!

Whitey, our car is long overdue of a much needed wash and vacuum. Even engine wash and tire black is needed. However, I can't seem to find time to do it. Actually, I can but I am too lazy to go out. I feel like I am needed here at home to tend to the kids so the car is left unmaintained for long stretches of time. So, when I had extra time last Saturday morning, I washed the car, cleaned the tires and wiped the windows and windshield silly. I actually enjoyed it. If I had more time I would have vacuumed and wiped the inside of the car too.

Speaking of cars, I am looking for auto accessories so that Whitey will be pimped even for a bit. It doesn't look like a woman's car at all. I dunno, maybe a upgrade on its dash kits? Actually, what our Toyota needs right now is some new lighting covers. I broke the front right headlight cover a few months back. Although it is small, rain can come in and destroy the light if I don't get it fixed. So, that's noted.

What else? Ooh some spoilers and a new set of black Lexani forged wheels will definitely add a little oomph to our otherwise plain Toyota. However, why just do little upgrades here and there? Why not just buy a new one??? Well, if life is that simple why not. With all the payables this year and the ever so unstable economy, we simply can't afford that luxury just yet.

At this point, I am still happy with our Toyota. Granted that it is old, but it is still functioning and it works for us. I don't even use it often. The most is 2x a week. Sometimes, I just use it 2x a month!

I've saved so much in terms of gas bill. That's one of the perks of a WAHM (work-at-home-mom).

10 Places NOT to Use Your Debit Card

There are many choices today on how we decide to pay for a purchase. Cash, Credit cards and debit cards are the more popular choices. Still there's checks and other means. Personally, I generally transact in cash basis.

For some items, I use my credit card and at the rare occasions that I am too lazy to withdraw cash for the ATM, I use my debit card. I like my debit card, its instant cash always. However, I found this article earlier and found it really helpful.

Read on and learn a thing or 10 from this Yahoo Personal Finance article.

Here are 10 places and situations where it can pay to leave that debit card in your wallet:

1. Online

"You don't use a debit card online," says Susan Tiffany, director of consumer periodicals for the Credit Union National Association. Since the debit card links directly to a checking account, "you have potential vulnerability there," she says.

Her reasoning: If you have problems with a purchase or the card number gets hijacked, a debit card is "vulnerable because it happens to be linked to an account," says Linda Foley, founder of the Identity Theft Resource Center. She also includes phone orders in this category.

The Federal Reserve's Regulation E (commonly dubbed Reg E), covers debit card transfers. It sets a consumer's liability for fraudulent purchases at $50, provided they notify the bank within two days of discovering that their card or card number has been stolen.

Most banks have additional voluntary policies that set their own customers' liability with debit cards at $0, says Nessa Feddis, vice president and senior counsel for the American Bankers Association.

But the protections don't relieve consumers of hassle: The prospect of trying to get money put back into their bank account, and the problems that a lower-than-expected balance can cause in terms of fees and refused checks or payments, make some online shoppers reach first for credit cards.

2. Big-Ticket Items

With a big ticket item, a credit card is safer, says Chi Chi Wu, staff attorney with the National Consumer Law Center. A credit card offers dispute rights if something goes wrong with the merchandise or the purchase, she says.

"With a debit card, you have fewer protections," she says.

In addition, some cards will also offer extended warrantees. And in some situations, such as buying electronics or renting a car, some credit cards also offer additional property insurance to cover the item.

Two caveats, says Wu. Don't carry a balance. Otherwise, you also risk paying some high-ticket interest. And "avoid store cards with deferred interest," Wu advises.

3. Deposit Required

When Peter Garuccio recently rented some home improvement equipment at a big-box store, it required a sizable deposit. "This is where you want to use a credit card instead of a debit," says Garuccio, spokesman for the national trade group American Bankers Association.

That way, the store has its security deposit, and you still have access to all of the money in your bank account. With any luck, you'll never actually have to part with a dollar.

4. Restaurants

"To me, it's dangerous," says Gary Foreman, editor of the frugality minded Web site The Dollar Stretcher. "You have so many people around."

Foreman bases his conclusions on what he hears from readers. "Anecdotally, the cases that I'm hearing of credit or debit information being stolen, as often as not, it's in a restaurant," he says.

The danger: Restaurants are one of the few places where you have to let cards leave your sight when you use them. But others think that avoiding such situations is not workable.

The "conventional advice of 'don't let the card out of your sight' -- that's just not practical," says Tiffany.

The other problem with using a debit card at restaurants: Some establishments will approve the card for more than your purchase amount because, presumably, you intend to leave a tip. So the amount of money frozen for the transaction could be quite a bit more than the amount of your tab. And it could be a few days before you get the cash back in your account.

5. You're a New Customer

Online or in the real world, if you're a first-time customer in a store, skip the debit card the first couple of times you buy, says Breyault.

That way, you get a feel for how the business is run, how you're treated and the quality of the merchandise before you hand over a card that links to your checking account.

6. Buy Now, Take Delivery Later

Buying now but taking delivery days or weeks from now? A credit card offers dispute rights that a debit card typically does not.

"It may be an outfit you're familiar with and trust, but something might go wrong," says Breyault, "and you need protection."

But be aware that some cards will limit the protection to a specific time period, says Feddis. So settle any problems as soon as possible.

7. Recurring Payments

We've all heard the urban legend about the gym that won't stop billing an ex-member's credit card. Now imagine the charges aren't going onto your card, but instead coming right out of your bank account.

Another reason not to use the debit card for recurring charges: your own memory and math skills. Forget to deduct that automatic bill payment from your checkbook one month, and you could either face fees or embarrassment (depending on whether you've opted to allow overdrafting or not). So if you don't keep a cash buffer in your account, "to protect yourself from over-limit fees, you may want to think about using a credit card" for recurring payments, says Breyault.

8. Future Travel

Book your travel with a check card, and "they debit it immediately," says Foley. So if you're buying travel that you won't use for six months or making a reservation for a few weeks from now, you'll be out the money immediately.

Another factor that bothers Foley: Hotels aren't immune to hackers and data breaches, and several name-brand establishments have suffered the problem recently. Do you want your debit card information "to sit in a system for four months, waiting for you to arrive?" she asks. "I would not."

9. Gas Stations and Hotels

This one depends on the individual business. Some gas stations and hotels will place holds to cover customers who may leave without settling the entire bill. That means that even though you only bought $10 in gas, you could have a temporary bank hold for $50 to $100, says Tiffany.

Ditto hotels, where there are sometimes holds or deposits in the hundreds to make sure you don't run up a long distance bill, empty the mini bar or trash the room. The practice is almost unnoticeable if you're using credit, but can be problematic if you're using a debit card and have just enough in the account to cover what you need.

At hotels, ask about deposits and holds before you present your card, says Feddis. At the pump, select the pin-number option, she says, which should debit only the amount you've actually spent.

10. Checkouts or ATMs That Look 'Off'

Criminals are getting better with skimmers and planting them in places you'd never suspect -- like ATM machines on bank property, says Foley.

So take a good look at the machine or card reader the next time you use an ATM or self-check lane, she advises. Does the machine fit together well or does something look off, different or like it doesn't quite belong? Says Foley, "Make sure it doesn't look like it's been tampered with."

What I Need.

I am so over wearing too much concealer because I hate the cake-y looking finish. Even though I wear minimum powder (I even tried mineral makeup), it would look thick because of too much concealer. I hate to do away with it because the darn circles under my eyes looks so ugly. The solution? An effective eye cream. But what?

Have you heard of hydroleyes eye cream? I am tempted to try it out. You see aside from fine line and wrinkles around my eye area, I also suffer from really dark circles under my eyes. This product claims to actively reduce the appearance of dark circles as much as 45%, also it claims to diminish the appearance of bags under the eyes by up to 68%, boost collagen production, reduce visible wrinkles, strengthen under eye capillaries to protect against future dark circles, and help eyes to appear younger and brighter.

That sounds exactly what I need right now! Bring it on.

Cats & Dogs

Big brother Ozzy is a little hyper lately. I don't know if he's just showing off or asking attention, but he certainly has been scolded more and more each day.

I wonder if stress would be effective in regards to fast weight loss? Because if it is, I should start to hit my target weight by now. There's no day wherein the big brother won't let his baby brother cry. He would pinch the baby when he thinks no one is looking. I would explain to him that he's not being nice etc etc..but it doesn't seem to get through him. It's exasperating to keep on repeating what I say but someone's got to do it. Poor lil baby don't know what hit him (in this case pinch him).

Now I can imagine why my elder sister and I used to be like cats & dogs when we were younger! How else would childhood be memorable if there's no squabbles between siblings right?

How Can You Face A Problem

..if the problem is your face!

Starting today, I promised my face I won't abuse it anymore by washing with soap. I found fine lines especially around my eyes and at 26(!) I never thought I'd have wrinkles already. But I do and I know why.

I don't religiously apply sunscreen, moisturizer and I wash my face with soap. That's a no no because our face is very sensitive and can easily dry out. Add to the fact that it's very hot these days and the sun's rays can be very unforgiving. Applying moisturizer with UV protection can be my best friend. You know, they say prevention is the key - I believe that.

Speaking about skin care, I'm wondering what I can use for acne. There are little zits showing up on my forehead and I don't want to put any harsh chemicals on my face. I used an OTC product for acne once and it caused redness and peeling! I never want that to happen again. Better read up on the best acne home remedies out there for my face.

Difference Between Boys & Girls

If I had started writing down everything funny my son had said intentionally or otherwise, I would have a novel by now.

Earlier when I was putting on make-up; cheek tint to be exact, my 3-year old boy exclaimed, "Mama, don't draw on your face!" I burst out laughing. I didn't really know how to explain it to him...so I just said,"I am putting on make-up so that I will look pretty."

Ozzy looked at me (kind of confused) and went back to playing with his little cars and farm tractors.

Sometimes I wish I had a little girl, this way I can also put on some cheek and lip tint on her. We'd play dress up and pretend were Princesses. How I really wish for a girl the next time we'd be blessed with a baby. I don't know what DH took, if he had indeed drank testosterone boosters or not; but his Y chromosomes seem to be very dominant. I read somewhere, if I wanted to have a baby girl,we should try to conceive a little before ovulation. If we do it at the same time as ovulation then we would have a higher chances of having a boy(again!).

So I'll definitely keep this one in mind.

My Dream: Walk-In Closet

Eversince DH promised me my very own walk-in closet once we have our dream house, I can't seem to stop thinking about it. Even though the prospect of having our very own home is probably years from now; I can't help but imagine who it might look like.

For inspiration (and to fuel the obsession) I've looked into celebrities very own walk-in closets.

Don't you just love raiding other people's closets? I do. It's more fun when they have tons of designer stuff.

Where Is She?

Friday, March 12, 2010

It’s weird. I feel off today. Friday is supposed to be my favorite day of the week yet I feel uneasy, cranky and lazy.

I blame it on the weather, my messy and thinning hair and the fact that I slept late and woke up super early at 5AM. No, I wasn’t playing any slot games online (maybe because I've found out roulette online is much more interesting). In fact I wasn’t even online. The reason was that my baby was fussy whole night – I don’t know why but I am guessing it’s because of the heat.

Speaking of heat, what is happening to the world? It freakin’ hot here and on the other side of the globe, its freakin’ cold? Other than that, earthquakes are becoming scarily frequent.

2012?

Mayan’s?

Is there truth in your calendar? I am afraid that the answer may as well be YES. If that is the case, are you ready? Mom and I were talking about it once, she said its not a bad idea to stock up on water and canned food.

Let’s change the topic okay? Seriously, my hair…it’s an even bigger disaster. It’s dry and thinning. I don’t know what to do anymore. I want to chop it off but I can’t. Well, I won’t. Too much going on by the end of this year and I want to look good with long curly hair. My aunt asked me,”Do you want to be bald or can you just accept a shorter hair?”

My answer: I don’t want to be bald. I won’t cut it either. I sure hope those products I use for my hair work. Yes, I know. I am hard-headed. So hard-headed in fact that I've not stopped looking for the best online casinos for us players even though in fact, I am no US citizen.

Anyway..........I feel like I've lost my mojo in blogging. Having 3 blogs is taxing and it squeezes one dry of the inspiration to blog. I was reading one of my first entries in my very first blog and I must admit, I miss that girl. She seemed so much more inspired. Where's that girl now?

Balding, sleep-deprived and uninspired I presume?
