Life's A Gamble

Friday, January 29, 2010

I was reading Reader's Digest earlier when an article caught my eye. It was about investments and money issues. These days, it is important to not let your money sit in banks or in more backward cases - sit in your piggy bank! What should you do with your money?

It is more beneficial for one to either invest your money in insurance, currency trading, real estate and many more. On the issue where should you go to invest your hard earned cash is totally up to you. Invest in something you believe in. Invest in something you are comfortable with. Also, invest an amount you are willing to lose because - let's face it, nothing is sure in this world. Life is a gamble, as they say. With that in mind, I have to review those term life insurance rates and see if its worth the gamble.

Nothing Much

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

We super enjoyed our time yesterday watching the Bench Fashion Show. My friend Yova walked the runway for Bench as Convergys Ambassador with cutie celebrity Enchong Dee. Little Jacob was fast asleep on his sling which was good because at least I had a decent time out. Ever since he was born, my day was in 3hour intervals because of his nursing schedule. I am planning on mix feeding him when he reaches six months. By that time, Ozzy will start school and I'd be busy for sure.

Anyway...break's done. I've been distracted too much about so many things that I forgot to give those auto insurance quotes Hubby was asking!

Go Get Insured!

If you haven't yet, then now is best time as any to start checking on life insurance not only for yourself but for your family. Why do I say this? Because I saw 2012 and I admit the movie freaked me out a bit.

We all know and feel the severe changes in our environment lately. Calamities like massive flooding, earthquakes and weather changes can be felt all over the world. In my mind, I cannot die. My kids are too young, they need me. Not to be morbid here or anything, I am just stating a fact. The fact is anyone - me, you or all of us can go anytime. We have to be ready. Spiritually and financially. After getting insurance, my next aim is to get memorial plans.

Nail Biting When Bored

Ozzy nail bites. Did you know that about half of all adolescents bite their nails, but more than three-fourths of those will stop by age 35 [source: CRS Pediatric Advisor]. Habits like these are unconscious behaviors that are repeated out of anxiety, stress or boredom. Nail biters have what doctors call onychophagia. In my son's case, I've noticed he does it when he is bored. Anyway, because of nail biting he has developed an infection on his cuticle which led to his nail falling off!! He had to take oral antibiotics because he was feverish. I used to think nail biting was no big deal until now. I realized that its no joke, when you bite your nails, you transfer bacteria back and forth between your mouth and fingers. Since Ozzy bites his hangnails as well, infections grew under the nail bed. Just like when you go have your mani/pedi and the manicurist removes a hangnail which would lead to an ingrown nail. Even worse damage done by nail biting is that you can permanently damage your nails, your gums and your teeth. Stop nail biting by grooming you nails regularly, apply a deterrent, distract yourself and keep those hands busy with something else, find out why you bite or seek treatment.

Aches & Pains of Motherhood

Monday, January 25, 2010

If you are a mom, then you would understand why I would complain a lot about backaches! Whenever I am nursing, changing the baby's nappies, bending down to pick up the baby/toys/big brother or simply just carrying him - my back aches. I use the sling a lot so I can still multitask while holding on to Baby Jacob, although I love it, sometimes it does give me shoulder pain and a bit of back pain. Maybe I am just wearing it wrong. Or maybe I am just spreading myself too thin and not getting enough rest.

Aside from backache, I also have neck pains when I am in front of the computer for too long. I have thought of buying tramadol online for my safe supply of painrelief drugs. You may be curious to know what Tramadol is, basically Tramadol HCL is a popular pain reliever for many conditions that cause pain of all kinds. Whether you’ve got toothache or post-operative pain, tramadol can be a great remedy for your pain. There are many different formulations, tramadol hcl tab 50mg as well as 100mg and even extended release form. The extended release formula is designed specifically for those patients whose pain is chronic and severe enough to need 24-hour management. Just make sure, when buying online get the best value for your money by choosing the Best Licensed Online Pharmacies. If you visit tramadolbluebook.com you can check the credentials of online pharmacies. This is turn would be beneficial because you can now easily compare tramadol prices.

Anyway..despite all the aches and pains of Motherhood its all worth it by the end of the day - one simple smile, a sloppy kiss or a hurried hug is all I need to make it all go away.

Power Nap

Thursday, January 21, 2010

I never get enough sleep at night making me a bit cranky at times. After lunch is the worst because I get very lazy to come up the office to work. What keeps me going especially after luncheon? Two words : Power-Nap

Defined as,"a short sleep which terminates before the occurrence of deep sleep or slow-wave sleep (SWS), intended to quickly revitalize the subject. Power-napping is thought to maximize the benefits of sleep versus time. It is used to supplement normal sleep, especially when a sleeper has accumulated a sleep deficit. Scientific experiments (see Benefits section below) and anecdotal evidence suggest that an average power-nap duration of around 15-30 minutes is most effective."

This is what keeps me going daily. As you know, I never have 8-hour uninterrupted sleep since the baby was born so after lunch, I do my power-nap with Joshua. It really works for me, I usually have a 15-30 minute nap and then I feel fully charged again. So, if you can - try this. It will make you more effective in your job if you have a sharp mind and not a sleepy mind.

Quick Break

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

In January alone, I have been very stressed from meeting all the deadlines and stuff. Unfortunately, it seems that it is not even halfway done. Arrrg. I need a break. A long long long vacation.

On top of work stress, there's the kids and the fact that Hubby is starting a new chapter of his life. Since his contract with his previous employer is done, he has decided to work here for the meantime, at least until he finds another employment overseas. I am also busy looking for a school for Joshua. He's been extra naughty and with his dad here it seems he is enjoying testing our patience with him. With the rate I am going, sleeping for only 5 hours a day, I'd be needing he help of anti aging product pronto!

Okay, breaks over. Back to work! Xoxo

Fight The Bulge.

Monday, January 18, 2010

After giving birth to my new son last September, I bid farewell to the possibility of wearing form fitting clothes and two-piece swim wear. Aside from the hideous stretchmarks, I cannot hide from the fact that I have tummy rolls already. It's not so bad when I am standing up but it is very visible when I am sitting. I never had this problem before and I am too lazy to exercise. One option for me is to diet. Another is to take relacore. It is this new product which targets the belly bulge.

Actually, after close watch, these are all just claims by relacore. If you are, like me, interested to find a diet pill that works, try out other pills which is recommended by more and more people like Clincallix. I don't know anyone with first hand experience though, so don't take my word for it. In my case, I'd stick to plain old diet and tummy crunches for now. I can't take in anything that may be harmful especially now that I am still breastfeeding.

Postpartum Hair Loss

Friday, January 15, 2010

I am having a serious case of hair fall these past few weeks. Ever since I've stopped taking my prenatalvitamins my hair has been in bad shape. Come to think of it, my nails too have become very brittle. When I was pregnant, I had thick hair which was healthy and shiny. Now my hair is dry and has thinned down considerably. I know for a fact, postpartum hair loss is normal but I refuse to do nothing about it. Since I cannot stop the hair from falling, either I have my hair cut or I just tie it in a loose pony. I prefer the latter.

Apparently, about 85 to 95 percent of the hair on your head is growing and the other 5 to 15 percent is in a resting stage. After the resting period, this hair falls out — often while you're brushing or shampooing it — and is replaced by new growth. An average woman sheds about 100 hairs a day. In my case, I get annoyed because I see a lot of hair in the bed, on the bathroom floor, on my brush - basically everywhere that I have been. It's good to know that this unusual shedding will taper off and your hair will be back to its pre-pregnancy thickness about six to 12 months after giving birth. Great, just in time for my hubby's twin's wedding.

Red Raccoon Eyes

I've caught the bug and now I am sneezing and blowing my nose like crazy. It's bad enough my 2 kids have the sniffles, now I have it too. I haven't slept all night because little Jacob kept on waking up. He refused to be put down so I had to hold him longer than usual until he fell deep asleep before putting him down. When he did fall asleep, Ozzy woke up crying because of a boo-boo (something to do with his nails, long story). If this routine keeps up, I would be needing some intense dark circle eye cream because my concealer doesn't cut it anymore. Add to the fact that I have blood shot eyes due to my colds, I am a mess. I look like a raccoon with red eyes.

Since I've become a mom I have stopped sleeping soundly at night. There's always something that wakes me up. A crying baby or a hungry one, sometimes I wake up simply because I am paranoid they have suddenly stopped breathing. I almost forgot how it feels like to have an eight hour uninterrupted sleep.

Read The Fine Prints

Thursday, January 14, 2010

There are many acne products out there and the true challenge is looking for the right product for you. One should take into consideration your kind of skin type, age, history etc etc. If you use any acne product make sure to read the fine prints or read reviews about it first before trying it yourself. For example, accutane, the most powerful and controversial acne product today has caused some stir because it has serious side effects. It has been known to cause dryness, discomfort with contacts, joint pain, back pain, dizziness, drowsiness, nervousness, dryness of the lips, mouth, nose, and skin, cracking or peeling of skin, itching, rashes, or changes in finger nails. Why??? Because accutane completely stops oil production. Our body needs oil to some degree of course, it is the overproduction which is the problem. So basically, removing oil from our body is clearly not the solution for anyone regardless of how effective it is to some users.

So never use accutane without careful consideration of the serious side effects it have. After all there are other solution to acne or other products in the market that is not as harsh but can deliver results as well. Risking your overall health for beauty is not a wise thing to do.

It's A Circus

LSS. Last song syndrome. Seriously, elections here in the Philippines is 4 months away yet the Presidential candidates have bombarded the media, print, radio and tv with all kinds of promotional ads. As if that's not enough they have also been giving out fliers, shirts, notebooks, fans and promotional pens. To each his own. As long as their not handing out money then its legal, I guess. Here in the Philippines you can't run without money. You should at least have 1M for campaigning and that's not nearly enough. So its no wonder why we pay so much taxes and we see minimal results. The streets have potholes, we don't have new infrastructures, our transport system is outdated and the public school buildings are falling apart with age. C'mon, its time for the people to wake up and demand for change. There's been so much love for this one Presidential candidate whose the son of a national hero, although there's no doubt in my mind he is an ok guy; I don't see in him the same passion his deceased Father possessed. Also, he is pro-choice making him pro-contraceptives. I don't know about that stand, all I know the Church won't back him for that. Ahh Politics, in the Philippines indeed it is a circus.

That's why everybody is talking about this new series!!! It's pretty good. Trust me, you will learn to love it. The dancing, the singing and the hilarious characters will get you hooked.

Although I must admit it has this high school musical vibe going on, but it appeals to a much larger audience. It's funny and fresh and I so look forward to the song and dance routines every episode. My favorite so far is the episode where the football players danced to the tune of "Single Ladies" which was led by "the stylish one" (the gay one). I was laughing and was touched (by the ending) at the same time.

If you still haven't watched, please do. It has been months since my friends told me about this show and I regret waiting this long to watch this.

Backup Your Files

It's a disaster waiting to happen if you don't backup. The longer you wait around to do it, the more information you are poised to lose. When that happens, when you work-PC or personal laptop crashes along with all those important files there's no one to blame but yourself. A few years back I used to burn all my backup data in DVD's, then I started saving them in external hard discs now I think its more practical and safe for me to use a secure online backup service instead. With an online backup I can be assured my files are safely tucked away in an off site backup. Its not only crashes were afraid of, viruses and hackers are a serious threat to our data, photos, video and music files. Not only that, file sharing would be very easy for our businesses and personal use.

With all those benefits, I am sold. This 2010 I resolve to be more organized with my files. I don't want the big crash of 2009 which left me nearly in tears and weeks of scampering for what's left of my documents happen again.

Unpredictable Weather

Brrrrr.

Somethings amiss in the weather nowadays and its undeniable. It was terribly hot last December where usually temperature drops for that chilly Christmas-y feel. Now, Sinulog is days away and its been terribly rainy and cold as opposed to the usual sunny Sinulog we usually experience. Sinulog is our City's feast and everyone is in their most festive mood. For my part, I am preparing to stay home all weekend. Besides, we can watch the festivities in the small screen minus the unpredictable weather and crowd.

Speaking of unpredictable weather, my future SIL and I have been talking about her pre-nup picture taking which is scheduled in July. They want it to be in the beach so we are crossing our fingers for a nice cool weather. Suffice to say, I am very excited for their wedding this December. I even suggested north myrtle beach hotels as one of the choices for their honeymoon. I wish the weather cooperates though!

(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.

Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by
Kimber, the color of a clear blue sky and the number 1142010.

1. Build It Yourself Coffin Kits. Creepy, interesting, cost effective, your new hobby?
Creepy, interesting and actually not a bad idea.

2. Can you blow up a balloon under water?
....I don't know! Hey, I wanna try that as an experiment. It sounds interesting.

3. Why do you think when naming citrus fruit they simply named an orange the color it is?
Because they ran out of ideas.

4. Insanity Cafe's topic of the day on Tuesday was this article. Have you ever known someone to do something embarrassingly stupid like that?
Yes..someone (a gay man) got something stuck (a canister) in his backdoor which he needed surgery to remove. The video of the surgery circulated youtube which led to a lot of suing and hospital staff suspension.

5. If you got stranded high on a mountain in the snow, how many snowmen would you make? Would you name them and talk to them?
I guess I'd make one. I will name him JL --> my crush *_*

6. Have you ever tripped and fell while walking up the stairs?
Many times, I actually tripped and slip last night going down the stairs. Luckily, it was only for 3 flights and I only hurt my toe a bit. Nothing serious. My Hubby always tells me I am a clutz. I always hate the name but its true.

7. If you were to make your own currency what would it look like, what would you call it and would you give some to your fellow Thursday Thunkers?
Pink. Like stationary paper. Smells good and would be called Vanz.

8. Have you ever made a Mr. Potato Head from a real potato?
Nope.^_^

Happy 2010 Thunkers!!!

Movers

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

I am no stranger to moving. My Father used to be Manager and was assigned to different Cities every few years or so. Growing up, we've moved to a total of 6 different rented houses before finally settling down and owning a home in Cebu City. My Mother used to hate packing up and moving to a different place. As if it is not tiring enough to pack the material things and find reputable long distance movers that won't damage your things while moving; the thought of re-acquainting yourself and the family to a new environment, not to mention new school is exhausting! You have to meet new neighbors, get to know new people, go to another school, etc. The first few times we moved it was okay...an adventure of some sort. But when I started to make friends and built relationships, it became a burden. It cam to a point where I didn't want to get close to anyone because we might move and I'd miss them too much.

That is why I have always held on to my dream of staying put here in Cebu and building our very own house. I don't mind if its small and simple as long as it is our own which my kids can call home.

Pretty Little Thing

Valentines Day; the day of hearts is coming!!! So if you are (like me) who is finding an excuse to sweet talk Hubby into buying you a gift then now's your chance. If given the chance (hint2x) I would like a nice pair of earrings.

I never leave home without a pair of earrings, this pretty little thing on the right which are faux sapphire earrings gives you that "wow" feeling. Aren't they perfect for a posh night out in town with the ladies or a quiet date night with Hubby? Speaking of date night, I sure hope Hubby and I can squeeze in some alone time these coming days. If he pushes through with going back to Norway - that leaves us with only 1 week more. At first I for the idea of him going back, now I really really want him to stay here. I am sure even though the compensation is better outside the country nothing beats the company of family.

Right now, we are still 50-50 on that decision..time is running out and we must decide soon.

Why Are Women Cranky.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

A male friend whose newly-wed and just had a baby commented how his wife is super cranky lately. I myself who is in the same position with his wife (even worse because I already have a 3 year old) wanted to boink him in the head. Of course the wife would be cranky, she is after all exhausted and lacks sleep. Guys on the other hand don't get this because they aren't the one's who get up in the middle of the night to feed or put the baby to sleep. When girls say they are exhausted, they are REALLY DEAD TIRED.

Guys if you don't want to be thrown put of the room, never say you are dead tired when all you did was sit on your ass in front of the computer play with your wii games and wii accessories, even had drinks after work with your buddies while your wife took care of the kids, did the housework and to top it off logged in for work. We don't want a lot from you, we just want your help without asking you for it. We also dislike nagging but you don't give us a choice now do you? A little foot and back rub won't hurt too. So don't wonder why women are cranky, were women, not wonder woman. We can't do everything.

Taurus Yearly 2010

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Just for fun 'cuz I don't really believe in horoscopes. I believe WE make our own destiny. Nonetheless:

Fearless forecast for a taurean like me!

Taurus (Apr 20- May 20)
Taurus yearly horoscopes 2010

People who are born under Taurus zodiacal sign possess very significant characters that are special to only this sign. Very stubborn, adamant, influential, practical, pragmatic and smart, a typical Taurus is a sign of stability and conformity. These people can reach very high success levels due to their power of will and perseverance. All these positive traits make them extraordinarily powerful and energetic. Even with all these powerful qualities, a typical Taurus person can be extremely personal and caring towards other people; affection and loyalty are two friendly words to these people. A person who is born under this sign can be very expressive and caring while giving their opinions on any subject or topic. They can easily indulge in great debates and discussions where one needs to give scholarly thoughts and ideas.

Another positive quality of a person belonging to this sign is his or her ability to make friends with all people. In fact, these people may have a large friend circle that likes to hang around all the time. A typical Taurus person can show immense affection towards the opposite sex. In all, a Taurus person is a wholesome person who can succeed any day with a sense of deep purpose. Taurus 2010 yearly horoscope is a mixed bah for them as they may face some setbacks or disappointments throughout the year. It could be an average year for these people because of some uncertainties in their career development.

What Makes A House Home?

A house is not a home unless you make it one. I realized, the roof, the furniture, the laminate flooring is not that important when you think about the grander scheme of things. When all else fails, the family is there. The individuals are what makes any house a home. So whatever fate takes our family this 2010 - may it be abroad or here in the Philippines I will make it a point to always have a home and not just a house.

Nuninuninuni. I am just thinking aloud here.

...One more year and we would have fully paid our lot. We can either resell the lot or use it. I love that lot, what I don't love is the location because it is quite far from the City. I am so used to living 5 minutes away from a mall that its hard to let go of that convenience. However, the lot is in a great subdivision, it is located beside the subdivision's pool and recreational area so basically it was a great buy. As a bonus, it is a corner lot too.

My dream house would include a simple zen garden, a big garage and play are. I like big spaces which would allow for wind to flow in and out of the house. I would also prefer dark oak flooring or more specifically a Florence engineered oak Flooring. Hubby and I talked about the house color pallet to be browns, cream, white and black just like the newly built house of Hubby's Aunt.

Dreams. Dreams. It's free right? So we'll keep on dreaming.

Happy 2010

We welcomed 2010 with a bang! Even if it was rainy it didn't stop my uncle and cousins from lighting some firecrackers which prompted the little boy to cover his ears.

2009 was a positive year for me and my family. We welcomed a new baby and life was great. Although 2010 started out rough; I am optimistic that all the misfortune we have right now are mere stepping stones to a greater fortune in the days ahead. Crossing fingers. This year, I am taking it slow on blogging because Oz will start school soon. I know I would have my hands full with that, with the baby and with work. I won't allow to spread myself thin and forget what is essential and that is family.

Speaking of family, check out our New Year family portrait taken on 01-01-2010.

Gotta love a good start to a good year!
