Home Makeover

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

I get a rush when purchasing stuff for the house. I have always loved interior design, I wonder why I never pursued that passion, however, whenever Mom asks my help in moving furniture and accessories around I do it with so much gusto.

Anyway, for our house Mom's next project would be the tiling of their bedroom CR and changing the sink. When that's done, the next project would be the kitchen. Mom seldom cooks and the reason for that is she not loving our kitchen right now. The maids cook outside to avoid having the smells and smoke inside the house. When the kitchen would be remodeled, Mom plans on a bigger stove and hood and a new and bigger copper kitchen sinks. That's all plans for 2010; I do hope the kitchen thing pushes through because I really want to start learning how to cook.

10 Things You are Thankful For

Despite the endless ranting on my part (i.e. lack of rest, 'me' time, 3 y/o tantrums and body weight issues) there are actually a handful of things I am still very much thankful for. Since the year is about to end, let me just say; This year, I am thankful for...........

  1. A happy healthy pregnancy and baby boy.
  2. Stable job for myself.
  3. Blogging and the extra income I am getting from it.
  4. Hubby's job in Norway. Although his contract will end this year, I know God has other plans for our family.
  5. Computers, Internet and the wonders of Technology for making life easier.

A Silent Hero

Monday, November 23, 2009

While everyone is going crazy of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao for his conquests on and off the ring; I would like to commend Filipino Teacher Efren Peñaflorida for winning this years' CNN 2009 Hero Of The Year. He is what is called a "kariton educator".

What he does is he brings education to the deprived street children armed with his Kariton Klasrum. He is truly an educator who reaches out to the many Filipino children who has no means to go to school. He goes beyond his call of duty to educate and encourage the kids to love learning. He goes on to say when giving his thank you speech, addressing the young,"My message to children of all races, please, to embrace learning and love it for it will embrace and love you back and enable you to change your world." Such a simple man with a big heart. I hope the youth are inspired by him and his simple story and strive to finish schooling instead of playing with useless computer games or drugs all day. The way I see it, poverty is not a hindrance to learning, one can always try for student loans or for scholarships.

Peñaflorida was granted US$100,000 and 90 percent of the cash will be used to aid the DTC's projects and the remaining 10 percent will go to the A Blessed Church in Cavite City. It's news like this that makes me smile and inspires all to be hero's in our own little ways. It's news like this that I enjoy reading about, a welcome change from all the news on killings, corruption and adultery. Way to go kababayan!

Holding On

It's crazy here at home that I've become a scatter-brain. It's not like I have so much to do really, but its more because I don't have time for myself at all. I feel like a robot. Someone to do this and that - sometimes I feel like I am not allowed to feel anything at all because if I do nothing gets done. It has been pretty demanding with the 2 kids plus the household. Oh well, life.

I am comforted by the fact that Mom & Dad are coming home next weekend. Hubby will be home in a few weeks and Christmas would mean I can relax and have fun a bit with my family and friends. At least for a few days at least I can chill and stop thinking about stuff like Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, more payables and the future. I know Hubby is stressing because of work (or lack of it!) but I am a firm believer of this saying which I got somewhere.

"God takes something from our grasps not to punish us . . .but to free our hands to receive something much better"
Just have faith and believe. Everything will work out.

Saturday 9: Talking in Your Sleep

1. Has anyone in your life talked in their sleep?
::: No..not that severe. I do remember once when my sister and I were still roomies, she was in ROTC training and it must have been quite an intense training that she still says,"Sir, yes Sir!" in her sleep.

2. What do you like about fall?
::: I've never experience fall because here in the PI we only have 2 seasons, wet & dry. However, from what I see, I like Fall colors. The trees particularly. I bet it smells nice as well. :::

3. Do you have an addictive personality?
::: Yes I do...but I quickly loose interest. I get addicted for say, a month then move on with something else in another. :::

4. Who was the last person to do something extra special for you?
::: Ozzy! When I was sick, vomiting uncontrollably, he came up to me and gave me a glass of water to drink. It was a simple gesture but coming from a 3 y/o I realized how much he understands and how sensitive he was to my needs. :::

5. Would you ever take someone back if they cheated on you?
::: No. :::

6. Are you happy with where you are in life?
::: Yes, I am :::

7. Do you believe that you can change someone?
::: Nope. I believe that you can't change someone. You can however talk about stuff and meet in the middle to maintain the sanity. :::

8. Have you ever wished you would've had someone but you couldn't?
::: Yes, when I was younger. Who hasn't? But everything happens for a reason. :::

9. Would you ever fight someone over your significant other?
::: Of course! But that really depends on the situation. But I am not the confrontational type though. :::

Flying Too Fast

It feels like the days are rolling by quite fast! In a week, November will be over and we will be welcoming the last month of the year, my favorite month - December!

Before this month is through, I should be able to finish these tasks. I've been prolonging on finishing simply because I really don't have much time. Now that Hubby is coming home, changes will be happening and I don't have a choice but to do them right away:

  1. Start my Christmas shopping.
  2. Ask around and start seriously looking for a preschool for Ozzy.
  3. Have my phone checked.
  4. Have Hubby's roaming checked.
  5. Talk with my insurance agent on a new insurance quote for myself and Hubby.
  6. Get the OR's from the Realtor.
  7. Be on a lookout for an additional housemaid.
  8. Renew Passport!!!
  9. Get Jacob's Baptismal Certificate.
  10. Visit the salon. Need a hair make-over badly and mani/pedi.

Practical Christmas Gifts

Friday, November 20, 2009

Every year, we make it a point to give out gifts to every member of our family. Since its the only time of the year everyone gathers from far off places, its also nice to be able to give a little something to everyone. This year I haven't started shopping for monetary reasons and also because I really don't have the time yet to do so. However, I have thought of practical gifts that I can give which is both useful and economical.

Here are my ideas so far:
  1. Gift Basket. I can either put fruits and food for the noche buena or I can choose to stuff it with toiletries like scrubs, soap etc.
  2. Photo Album. To store all those precious snapshots of the Holiday.
  3. Chocolate Bars. Who wouldn't enjoy chocolate? You can tie a fancy ribbon for added personal touch.
  4. Glass jar filled with assorted candy. Even grown ups can't resist to take some of that.
  5. Home baked cookies. This is for those who actually know how to bake, if not you can buy them at the store for a minimum amount.
  6. Board Games. This is a gift the whole family would love.
  7. Picture Frames. Last year I gave out picture frames and placed our personal photos in them already. My grandmother loved it.
  8. Planners/Diaries. A very useful gift, hand decorate the cover or decorate with crafts to make it more personal.
  9. Key chain. But wait, don't say "not that again" just yet, I found a cool place where you can have it personalized with the receivers picture/name or whatever.
  10. Gift Certificate. May it be for a spa treatment, dinner for 2 or just certificates in you favorite store. It's very practical and everyone can find ways to enjoy it.
Any other practical gift ideas? Do share.

24/7

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Ozzy is going to attend preschool soon and one of the things I am looking for in a school is its emergency alert system. If they don't have that then what are their ways of contacting parents when there are notices or emergencies, and similar questions like that. This is important for me and I am sure other parents can relate as well because these kids would be staying in the school a few hours a day already and we still want to be able to make they are all right at all times. If it was possible, I'd have them install a CCTV cam and watch the kids 24/7.

Actually, with the second baby I am not too paranoid anymore. Of course I still have my moments of craziness where I check if he's still breathing. Unlike when Ozzy was born, I'd check him every minute or so. When he's sleeping and seems quiet or unmoving for a long time I'd check if he was still breathing. At night, I'd suddenly wake up and check up on him, just because I want to make sure everything is fine. I've never left him in a room alone for a long time. Either I am there or the yaya should be there with him in the room where he is sleeping. We have a nanny cam too, you know just to be in the safe side. Right now, with Jacob I am taking it easy. I am not too uptight but still very much careful mind you. I only want the best for my kids. Now I know why my own Mother hovers.

Thinking Aloud

There are a lot of considerations that should be taken into account when opening a business. Planning and careful study of the market should be done. Also, one should be passionate about the business before going into it because you can't enter a business halfheartedly. That's why I am still very much confused as to what business venture I really really want.

Franchising is a good thing because there's already a system wherein its tried and tested. They give you the tools, tips, the POS systems and training you need to get started. However, its not really 100% your own. Again, it always boils down to the questions,"What are you good at?". "What are you most passionate about?" If you can answer that, then you can proceed with planning a business venture. If not then don't bother wasting your time just yet. For me, I am still in the process of assessing my strengths and passions.

You Think That Confidence is Glamourous

You Think That Confidence is Glamourous

You admire someone who can walk in to a room completely unprepared and wrongly dressed yet still own it.

Glamour doesn't have anything to do with how much money you have or how fancy you look. It's all about what you've got going on with your attitude.

The most enchanting people have taken a good look at themselves and accepted who they are. True confidence comes from high self esteem.

You believe that you can't be truly loved and respected until you love and respect yourself.

1. If you won a brand new house in a Dream House Giveaway would you move into it, sell it to pay the taxes and make a profit, rent it out or give it to a family member/friend who might need it? ::: Use it!!! We don't have a house of our own for now and that would make a great house to make home for our growing family. :::

2. Are you good at billiards? ::: No, I am not. The last time I played I lost so badly with Hubby that I got annoyed, so I try to not play again. :::

3. Does anyone on the planet really want to see Levi Johnston naked in Playgirl (other than when Bristol Palin did)? ::: I wouldn't know, I don't know who Levi J is and I am too lazy to even google. :::

8. If you had an appointment with the doctor and all the plants in the office were dead, would you still see the doctor? ::: You know what, YES I actually won't think that he's a bad Doctor, rather the opposite, he's such a good doctor that he's too busy to water the plants. :::

9. Have you ever seen the number 666 in a dream? ::: No. :::

10. "At 20 years of age the will reigns, at 30 the wit, at 40 the judgment."~ Benjamin Franklin

::: at 50, 60, 70....wisdom reigns. :::

11. Would you want your phone number to be (area code) 123-4567? ::: Yeah, its fine. Although this number runs the highest risk to be top choice when making a prank call. :::

Something To Think About

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

When I had my very first designer bag, I was overjoyed! Hubby bought it for me as a gift and I thought it was so sweet. It took me awhile to convince him to get me one though because lets face it, money does not grow in trees. I told him,"Think of it as an investment." Well, its not that I am planning on reselling it or something, but at least I am not closing the doors for that either in case we'll need extra cash for emergency.

So, have you ever heard of collecting rare coins? Think of it as an investment, like buying a piece of land, a jewelry or stocks. Investing your money through Monaco rare coins can be a very wise decision. Granting that you don't have a clue what investing in rare coins entails, we can trust that rare coin experts such as Monaco Rare Coin will be able to spot opportunities available in the rare coin marketplace today. This being said, investing in rare coins is not actually a bad idea. I may even invest in it too.

Upset Stomach

I got in the office before 9:00 am today refreshed and rejuvenated! This is a feat for me considering I've been coming in at 10:00 am ever since the baby was born.

I've been taking it easy this past few days because I had a terrible case of upset stomach last Friday night. I don't even know what my tummy was so upset about, I take good care of eating a LOT after all. LOL.

Anyway, I was vomiting and had lbm which had be up from 9pm until the wee hours of the morning. It was so bad that I kept gagging even though nothing came out already. I might as well have lived in the comfort room that night for all I care. I was shaking uncontrollably and was in a bad bad state. The next day, there was nothing in my tummy, my head was pounding and I was too weak to even stand or carry the baby. I was a bit scared because the parents weren't here and I was supposed to be in charge. As far as I was concerned I could not get sick because no one can take of me. Good thing an Aunt came by and really took time to make sure I get well. I recovered from it soon enough but I was left traumatized as to what I take in. I still don't know the reason why I got sick, I am guessing I had food poisoning, but I have not figured out what I ate or drank that was so bad for me to get sick that much and that fast, I am just happy it wasn't Ozzy or the baby that got it. After all, we take in the same things around here the house. Right now I am extra careful of the water I drink and the food preparation. I can't take chances especially now that I have first hand experience of how bad an upset stomach can get.

Mind Your Heart

Fact: Heart Disease is the #1 killer in the US today. One American die of cardiovascular disease every 33 seconds. That is something to think about. Good thing, a life changing American AED or Automated External Defibrillator is available to us for professional and public use. As we all know heart attack can happen anytime, anywhere where no professional medical help can go in anytime. An AED can perform the necessary life saving techniques. Wat it does is interpret a person's heart rhythm and automatically delivers a defibrillation shock with only minimal input from the operator. That's such a good news especially to those people already suffering from a heart ailment or to those who have had heart attacks already. With an AED within reach life can go back to normal without so much stress.

Manic Monday#189

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

You have a brain tumor. Though there is no discomfort at the moment, this tumor would unquestionably kill you in six months. However, your life can (and will) be saved by an operation; the only downside is that there will be a brutal incision to your frontal lobe. After the surgery, you will be significantly less intelligent. You will still be a fully functioning adult, but you will be less logical, you will have a terrible memory, and you will have little ability to understand complex concepts or difficult ideas. The surgery is in two weeks.

How do you spend the next fourteen days?
I will spend the last remaining days with my family. We would do anything and everything together like go to the beach, visit the zoo, play in the park, fly a kite, dance in the rain....just random everyday things. Then I will make sure to take lots of photos to remind me how lucky I am to still be alive.

Every person you have ever slept with is invited to a banquet where you are the guest of honor. No one will be in attendance except you, the collection of your former lovers, and the catering service. After the meal, you are asked to give a fifteen-minute speech to the assembly.

What do you talk about?
I won't say anything. I'd ask the catering people to bring some food home, there's no way Hubby and I can finish all those food by ourselves.

You have won a prize. The prize has two options, and you can choose either (but not both). The first option is a year in Europe with a monthly stipend of $2,000. The second option is ten minutes on the moon.

Which option do you select?
Europe! Hands down. I've always dreamed of visiting Europe and now is my chance. Going to the moon has never enticed me ever since. You travel for months only to stay for 10 minutes? and for what? rocks? No thank you.

Voting Wisely

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

With the 2010 elections months away, aspiring candidates have started to campaign for themselves in many different ways. Some opt for celebrities to endorse them. They have lengthy commercials with catchy jingles to boot. Some go for subtle advertising about their various accomplishments with common people giving their testimonies of how 'good' they are. And then there are those who rely on using imprinted promotional products to promote themselves. This is done to create a name recall and face recall to would be voters. Items like notebooks, fan, umbrellas caps and promotional tote bags are popular choices.

Some hopefuls with bigger budget for campaign ads go for more television advertisements as early as now. Last month when typhoon Ondoy ravished Luzon with massive flooding, Presidential hopefuls gave away promotional bags with relief goods inside. While its good that they helped some people questioned their motives.

Personally, I don't mind. It's the peoples' prerogative to vote for them anyway in the long run. Sad to say, there are still many voters who are swayed with these politicians give-away (cash and goodies) that they forget to vote wisely. Voting wisely means knowing their candidates platform and assessing their capabilities as a politician and not by how popular they are or who their family are, or which celebrity is endorsing them. Don't you think its about time to wisen up and expect a change in our political scene? This May 2010 I will not be swayed by flowery words or monetary bribe. I will be voting wisely. How about you?

What's Up?

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates people. Been feeling really lazy this week. I am too lazy to even update my Facebook status! You know what I want to do? Go to the salon, have my hair rebonded and get a manicure and foot spa too. Ahh but I can't do that right now. Maybe in a few weeks..we'll see.

We still need another helper here in the house and I don't feel right leaving the yaya with the 2 kids just yet. It might be too much for her to handle that's why I can't stay out too long. These days I only go out to hear mass and do the weekly groceries. That's it. No dinners, lunches or whatever. That's why I am in a rut.

I am just counting the days here until hubby gets home. 36 days more to go!

Trend Setter.

A never go out the house without a single accessory. Whether it be a funky bangle, a huge ring, a classic stud earring or a long chain necklace. I feel like an outfit is incomplete without an appropriate accessory to tie all the pieces together.

This Holiday season, a good idea for a gift to give is silver jewelry. They can be given to you aunt, mom, grandmother, cousin or daughter. It is very versatile and there are many choices available. So why not, right? They are relatively more inexpensive than gold and they can go with almost everything in your closet. My parents are going to the US for vacation-slash-work next week and my mom said she'll do some of her Christmas shopping there. I told her about the silver jewelry promos available right now with sterling silver jewelry since the Holidays is coming up and people are naturally encouraged to buy. Accessories is good since it won't be too bulky in their suitcases coming back home. For fashionable jewelry, check out Trend To Go coupons to get extra savings. Be a trend setter this holiday season, go and accessorize.

42 Things

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

I got this from Baby Center.

Everything changes when you become a parent. As in everything. Your body, your lifestyle, sleeping patterns and more. You see things differently. Everything becomes clearer and you begin to see danger in anything and everything around. Sleeping, showering and a quiet dinner becomes a luxury. But no matter how tired/angry/frustrated/disappointed you are with your child, you still love them unconditionally. Listed below are 42 things (only!) that change when you have a baby.

  1. You finally stop to smell the roses, because your baby is in your arms.
  2. Where you once believed you were fearless, you now find yourself afraid. [See a reader's perspective in #22, below.]
  3. The sacrifices you thought you made to have a child no longer seem like sacrifices.
  4. You respect your body ... finally.
  5. You respect your parents and love them in a new way.
  6. You find that your baby's pain feels much worse than your own.
  7. You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.
  8. You lose touch with the people in your life whom you should have banished years ago.
  9. Your heart breaks much more easily.
  10. You think of someone else 234,836,178,976 times a day.
  11. Every day is a surprise.
  12. Bodily functions are no longer repulsive. In fact, they please you. (Hooray for poop!)
  13. You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.
  14. You become a morning person.
  15. Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.
And from the readers...

Also, having 2 boys means 4 little hands and 4 legs that would go around making a mess and breaking things. I don't want that.
