Long ago, months before I started blogging - I was positive I'd never start my own blog. I was content with reading what others had to say and commenting on their posts as my means of letting my small voice heard. I was hesitant for a number of reasons. First off, I didn't know anything about starting a blog, second, I was self-conscious of the fact that people read my thoughts and judge me for it and third, I'm a private person. Do I really want to put my life out there? However, after awhile commenting and reading others blogs was not enough. I had to have my own blog. It took me awhile to get used to unwritten rules and Blogging 101 but somehow I got the hang of it. I even went as far as owning 5 blogs, 1 is closed now because of bad hosting service and the other 1 a WP blog. The remaining 3 are actively updated daily and are self-hosted blogs. All I know is that if you are interested in going to serious blogging, its a good idea to invest in reliable
web hosting; you don't want a site that's always down do you?
Finding a
dedicated server that suits your needs is not an easy feat and it may cost you but it is worth the investment in the long run. Who want to visit your site if it loads so slow or its always down right?
Anyway, I was thinking about this lately because I spend half of the day making posts and reading others blogs, what are the blogging etiquette's or rules if there are any? I have actually talked about this in my other blog but I wanted to post it again because it can be very helpful to the new bloggers out there.
Example: When someone is asking for an ex-link from me, should I add them first or wait until they add me?
I usually just add them anyway (especially if their blog appeals to me) and then check up on their blogs if they have added mine. I almost always never delete links unless that blog is gone or the blogger never bothered to add my link or visit my site.
Speaking of visiting sites: After an ex-link is established are we required to visit the site everyday???
Of course I try my best to visit daily, regularly or whatever, but that impossible because 1.) I have a life outside the online world 2.) I work full time and lastly 3.)I am a mom to a 3 year old! Anyway, when I do visit I make sure to leave a comment or a note in the cbox.
When you quote someone - post their links or acknowledge where you got the info from. You don't want to be branded as plagiarizing others work now do you.
Also, I tag people and ask them to continue meme's...Some do it, others don't and that's perfectly OK! Just let me know if you're up for a tag or not so I won't continue tagging you. ^_^ (because that's just annoying right?)
Another thing, when someone leaves a comment in one of the posts; Do the blogger(me) reply in the post itself, in the commentator's page or through email? Is it rude to just leave the comments & not reply?
Okay this is a bit tricky but it's a case to case basis. What I do is I really try my very best to reply to every comment made, even if it's a simple 'thank you'; I usually reply in the post itself. (so dear readers, just check because that's what I do when I leave comments in others page; I regularly check). However, if the comment left is a clear question that I feel I must address I leave a comment in that commentator's page or cbox or tagboard. Lastly, if I need to answer a personal matter, like paypal email add, telephone number,or something like that I would send an email because that is more private.
I don't think it's rude not to reply to each and everyone's comments because sometimes we don't have the luxury of time.

Anyway, I feel weird writing this post (feeling pro?) but then again, I was just thinking because maybe I've offended some? Maybe there's rules I don't know? Right? If I've offended anyone by not linking them or what, I do apologize. A nice tip for those starting out there, check out awesome
green hosting first and look around for the one perfect for your needs before purchasing so you won't regret it in the end. Why Green? Because you can do your part in saving the earth, since green web hosts use alternative / renewable energy, plant trees, recycling waste and purchase RECs to power their datacenters. So, if there are any more tips/rules out there I don't know about, care to share?
